Sweet Summertime Reads 2015 with Heather

Welcome to Sweet Summertime Reads! All summer long I will be featuring a different blogger to share their current summer reads + what's on their agenda for this summer. I hope you'll join me each week!  Today, Heather from The Turning Pages is showing us what's in her reading pile for the summer + all her summer goodness she's planning to do (psst, can I come visit??!!).  Please welcome Heather to the blog!

Hello & happy summer friends! It’s hard to believe it’s not officially summer yet, especially here in the Carolinas where temperatures are at or just below 100 this week. Whew! I can’t imagine what it’ll actually be like once the summer season is actually here. You can definitely say a cold drink is kept handy and the AC is on full blast.

Having the summers off as a teacher is an added bonus. It’s a time when I get to catch up on all the books I’ve been wanting to read and to binge watch some of my favorite TV shows. And of course, I can’t forget spending time by the pool. Luckily there is one in my backyard, so I don’t have to go far to lounge by the water with a good book & hand and an ice cold glass of lemonade (my favorite summer beverage).

This summer, I have four books at the very top of my summer reading list. Three of which are ones I’ve never read and one being a favorite that I plan to re-read. Here are my summertime picks:

Along for the Ride by Sarah Dessen: my summer reread. Each summer, I pick out one Dessen novel to reread. It’s my own personal vacation without having to go anywhere.

Isla and the Happily Ever After by Stephanie Perkins: I love Perkins’ novels & this is one I’ve put off far too long, so I’m buckling down and going to enjoy it by the pool.

Second Chance Summer by Morgan Matson: This is another I’ve put off reading & I don’t know why. It seems like the perfect book about friends, family, & love. I can’t wait to finally read it!

Rules of Summer by Joanna Philbin: This is one I’ve had several people recommend to me & I’ve been waiting for the summer to roll around so that I can fully enjoy the setting and perhaps pretend that I too am enjoying a summer in the Hamptons.

With reading being a big part of my summer plans, that’s not all I have on the summertime agenda. With a trip to the beach hopefully in the works, I’ll also be attending my fair share of concerts this summer. After all, summer’s not complete without good company & good music.

Happy summer, y’all!

xoxo, Heather

  3. The 1st weekend in Chicago there is a huge book event called Printers Row Lit Fest which scan five city blocks of book sellers & a ton of author events. I have been going the last 6 or 7 years and love attending. I plan on reading Saint Anything this summer. I wanted to wait until the school year was over so I could savory it correctly!

  5. There is nothing to do here during the summers. Sometimes they have a fair or a crawfish festival but I suck and am too poor to go. I really need a life or a better town or something. My family & I usually go to the river. I spend all my time reading though. It's what I love most. I'm really looking forward to reading Queen of Tomorrow by Sherry D. Ficklin, Every Last Breath by Jennifer L. Armentrout and The Heart of Betrayal by Mary E. Pearson. Thank you so much. Hope you have a wonderful summer.

  7. The summertime over here is really really hot! We had a long winter so I'm really happy that the snow is gone (: I live by nyc so there's a lot happening over here. I was really hoping that I would be able to go to bookcon but I always have next year. Maybe in the fall or spring of 2016 I will be going to college for primary education.

  8. Summer in Savanna IL is unique in the sense that we either have a really hot summer day or a mild one. Also, it constantly rains. I hope to finish The Serpent's Shadow by Rick Riordan and maybe one other book. My summer is jammed packed. Thank you!

  9. Where I live, by the Sea of Cortez in northern Mexico, it's very hot and humid in the summer. We have to be careful how much time we spend outside and be sure to stay hydrated. One thing that's cool is that whenever someone comes to your door it's customary to offer them water and they almost always accept. Seems so polite.

  10. I'll be spending a lot of time by the pool as well! Enjoy your summer off, Heather, and all of your books. Isla is my favorite of the series. :)

  11. Love your hat in the photo above! Where is it from? I usually wear a baseball cap to the pool but that is definitely more fashionable:-)

  12. Summers in Michigan are great. We have all the lakes (and smaller inland ones, too), forests, dunes...it's really wonderful.

As always, there are so many books I want to read this summer! I'm currently reading Emmy & Oliver (<3 <3 <3), and I'm excited for The Boy Most Likely To and The Girl in the Spider's Web.

  13. I live in Indiana where the summers are usually one thing: humid. And they have a lot of thunderstorms...which are sometimes fun! Thank you for the giveaway!
