THEIR LIVES DEFY CONVENTION

When an unexpected inheritance elevates her family to the ranks of the aristocracy, Amelia Hathaway discovers that tending to her younger sisters and wayward brother was easy compared to navigating the intricacies of the ton. Even more challenging: the attraction she feels for the tall, dark, and dangerously handsome Cam Rohan.

THEIR DESIRE CONSUMES THEM BOTH...

Wealthy beyond most men's dreams, Cam has tired of society's petty restrictions and longs to return to his "uncivilized" Gypsy roots. When the delectable Amelia appeals to him for help, he intends to offer only friendship - but intentions are no match for the desire that blindsides them both. But can a man who spurns tradition be tempted into that most time-honored arrangement: marriage? Life in London society is about to get a whole lot hotter... [goodreads]

With this being my first experience in reading adult historical romances, I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this story. The language that Lisa Kleypas uses placed me right into the story. It was so easy for me to visualize 1800 England among the aristocrats and those who strive to make a name for their family. From the luscious British countryside, to the damp streets of London, the scenery came alive in this story.

I instantly fell in love with the Hathaway family. They came across as a lively family, who even though they were down on their luck still managed to make do with what they had. Just as their struggles seemed to hit rock bottom, things got unbelievably worse. As the eldest, healthy and coherent daughter in the family, Amelia has taken it upon herself to move the family. What she doesn't realize is that this change is determining her fate, something she never believed in anyway.

Then there's the mysterious Cam Rohan. I don't know much about gypsies, but his character was definitely intriguing! From their first meeting the physical tension between Amelia and Cam was an instant spark. Though Amelia's stubbornness attempted to keep Cam at bay, his eagerness and self assurance always persevered. I enjoyed the playful banter that began between them, but slowly evolved into something much deeper and longer lasting.

If you're looking for a rich historical romance with a story that keeps the pages turning, and the passion never fizzling out, then I highly recommend picking up a copy of Mine Till Midnight.

  1. This is a great series. It gets better with each book. If you like it, you really have to check out Lisa's Wallflowers series. The Hathaways is actually a spinoff of that series. A lot of the characters you met in this book like Lord Westcliff, Lillian, and Sebastian St. Vincent are the main characters in that series. I loved it! :)

  2. I really like the Hathaway series by Lisa Kleypas. Another series by Kleypas that I love is the Wallflower series (although I never read the first one). Mine Till Midnight is one of my favorites. Glad you enjoyed it. I haven't read many historical romances over the last few years, but I used to read them all the time. Your reviews are making me want to pick up some romances again. Glad you are enjoying this genre.

  4. I am pleasantly surprised by your venture into Historical Romance, hehe. I'm so glad you enjoyed it. Lisa Kleypas is a great writer and this is a fun series :) Like Quinn said above, The Wallflowers are also a good one.

If you continue to read Hist Rom, may I recommend the Bridgertons by Julia Quinn? There are 8 books in total, one for each Bridgerton sibling and in a word, they are delightful :)

  5. I love Lisa Kleypas! She's the author who made me fall in love with historical romance - with Seduce Me at Sunrise, #2 in the Hathaway series. But I absolutely adore Cam, so I enjoyed #1, as well, when I read it later.

I second the above suggestion of the Bridgertons. Julia Quinn is amazing! And the series has the wonderful family element, as well as beautiful romances.

    Hooray for historical romance love!

  6. Lisa Kleypas is an amazing writer! I thoroughly enjoy reading her books, both the contemporaries and the historical ones.

I agree with the Bridgerton recommendation, which I also mentioned in my comment on your post the day before. And do try Julie Garwood!

  7. Yay! I read this one recently and was SO enamored with it! I loved it and while the second book was a little bit of a let-down for me, the third book is the BEST. It's just amazing! :) I also just adored the fifth novel and have yet to read Book 4 - I don't ever want to say goodbye to the Hathaways. Wonderful review! :)
