Waiting On: Amelia Anne is Dead and Gone

Amelia Anne is Dead and Gone by Kat Rosenfield
to be published: July 5, 2012
On the night of Becca’s high school graduation, the discovery of an unidentified dead girl left to bleed out on the side of a dirt road sends the town—and Becca—into a tailspin. Becca has always longed to break free from her small home town, but as the violence of the outside world creeps into her backyard, she withdraws and retreats inward, paralyzed for the first time in her life.

Short chapters detailing the last days of Amelia Anne Richardson’s life are intercut with Becca’s own coming-of-age summer, unfolding into the parallel stories of two young women struggling with self-identity and tense romantic relationships as the summer’s tumultuous events twist Becca closer and closer to the truth about Amelia’s murder. {goodreads.com}

I received an ARC of this book at ALA midwinter after the publisher told me a bit about the book.  Lots of good things were being said about it.  I love young adult books that are set during the summer after graduation because the tone is so promising.  That's a crucial time for any teenager, but with the plot of a murder thrown in - definitely shakes things up a bit!  I'm looking forward to this novel, for sure.

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

  1. I agree about how books set right after graduation are in a really excellent time frame. It’s such a critical moment in a teen’s life as it is, adding in a dash of murder just makes it sound so inticing! I’m going to have to add this to my TBR list! Thanks for sharing! :D

  5. I love the name and cover - both just sort of make you do a double take because they really stand out from the other types of books that are out there. I'm interested in the parallel stories which could be a really nice change in format for me. I'm looking forward to your review of this one!
