Silence (Hush, Hush #3) by Becca Fitzpatrick

Published: October 4, 2011 by Simon & Schuster
Received: bought from Barnes & Noble
The noise between Patch and Nora is gone. They've overcome the secrets riddled in Patch's dark past...bridged two irreconcilable worlds...faced heart-wrenching tests of betrayal, loyalty and trust...and all for a love that will transcend the boundary between heaven and earth. Armed with nothing but their absolute faith in one another, Patch and Nora enter a desperate fight to stop a villain who holds the power to shatter everything they've worked for—and their love—forever. {taken from goodreads.com}

Silence picks up right where Crescendo left us hanging, and I mean that quite literally.  With such a cliffhanger ending, I had to get my hands on the next book as soon as it came available.  And I did just that, publishing day.  Nora Grey wakes up in a cemetery with no memory of the last 5 months.  She is blinded by how she got there, and what events led her to this place.  The story doesn't waste any time jumping right in to the thick of things.  Immediately we are dropped back in to this sleepy small town of Maine that inhabits so much history among the archangels.  Nora is on a mission to remember her past, looking for clues any where possible.  The first person we're aware of who has been so easily erased from her memory: Patch.  My interest and questions began, what happened in those five months to tear a part Nora and Patch?  Two souls who fought so hard to be together.

Sadly, that is where my interest fell. Hard. And flat.  The plot thickened and I found myself confused, quite a bit.  I understood the author's purpose to create mystery and intrigue, but I felt like at times it was too much.  I found it difficult to follow.  I then began to see holes in the story.  Obvious choices that Nora was making were so wrong.  How can she be so dense?  Multiple times I wanted to shout at her to THINK! OPEN YOUR EYES! LOOK AROUND!  That aspect of the story grated on my nerves a bit too much.  I had to dig deep and remember what I loved so much about the previous two books, and that is what propelled me through this one.  I told myself to over look the minor grievances I had with Nora and the storyline, and tried to focus on the ending.

Silence is probably my least fave of the series so far.  I recently read on twitter that Becca Fitzpatrick announced she'd be continuing the story with a fourth book.  Yes, I am pleased to read more, but I don't think I'll be going out on publishing day to pick up my next copy.  This saddens me because I had so much heart for these books.  Patch is still a fave of mine, though I felt his character evolve in to something a bit different in this chapter of the story.  Maybe the fourth book will redeem itself and remind me why I loved this series so much.

  1. I love your honest review!  I was starting to think that the book blogging world was full of happy, glowing reviews where no one ever said anything negative because it's "book bashing."  So many people will not finish a book if they don't like it but how can you know you don't like it if you don't give it a chance by finishing it?  I truly admire your honesty and you've inspired me to be more honest yet tactful and to be more myself in reviews that I write.

  2. I have heard so many good things about this series, and it's definitely on my wishlist. I am sad to hear that you were disappointed by this book though, I hate feeling let down like that.

  3. I'm so sad you didn't enjoy it that much! I actually didn't like Crescendo as much as the other two, and I absolutely adored Silence! Sure I had my moments when I wanted to scream at Nora for being an idiot, but I got over it :) Hopefully the fourth one will work out better for you. I know I'm excited for it!

  4. *High five*
    I completely agree! Unfortunately Silence didn't have the same impact on me as the other novels did.

  5. It seems that alot of us have that same feeling. I love Hush Hush and Crescendo..esp the ending that left me reeling...there seemed to be something missing in Silence....I was slightly disappointed..but the book picked up for me once Patch made an appearance again

  7. GOSH, I don't like Nora. DO NOT. I was cool with her in the first book, but the second book she made me all sorts of angry. I do enjoy Patch, however. Which is why I'll be continuing with the third book (in audiobook form, even!) Maybe that will inspire me to push through my anger :P We will discuss when I finish!

  8. I had trouble with Crescendo so while I want to read Silence, I admit I've been taking my time and putting it off. Now that I know there's a fourth book I'm in even less of a rush. Nora drove me crazy too!

  9. I really need to start this series. I've read several mixed reviews for each book which kinda has me delaying reading them. (Sighs)

  10. Thank you! I try to be honest in every thing I review. I know I won't like every book and I feel that I should let people know when I like a book... and when I don't.  I think there's a way to do that without disrespecting the author, or their work.
