Waiting on Wednesday {19}

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

And Then Things Fall Apart
by Arlaina Tibensky (July 26, 2011)

Keek is not having a good summer. She and her boyfriend have just had their Worst Fight Ever (on the subject of her virginity, nonetheless), she’s been betrayed by a best friend, her parents are splitting up, and her mother is on the other side of the country tending to Keek’s newborn cousin, who may or may not make it home from the hospital. Oh, and Keek’s holed up at her grandmother’s technology-barren house with an abysmal case of the chicken pox. In Keek’s words, “Sofa king annoying.”

With her world collapsing around her, Keek’s only solace comes from rereading Sylvia Plath’s The Bell Jar and typing on an old electric typewriter. Keek—whose snappy narrative voice is darkly humorous and hysterically blunt—must ultimately decide for herself which relationships to salvage, which to set free, and what it means to fall in love.

I searched high & low for this book's summary & this was the best I could find. *Edit: My good friend Maria from Cari's Book Blogs found a more detailed description! Thanks Maria!! I first saw this book cover on goodreads & couldn't take my eyes off of it.  Don't you love it?!  What little we are given, it sounds like this book is going to be deep & emotional.  It's tough being a teenager - huh?  Side note: I've never read The Bell Jar.  I wonder if it's a sign as to how heavy this book is going to be.

What are you "waiting on" this Wednesday??

  1. This book does sound great! I haven't read The Bell Jar either. Sometimes when books have other books featured in them I'm always worried I won't understand, will be confused, or not like the book. Examples: Prom and Prejudice was a good book & I understood it without reading Pride and Prejudice and Nevermore I read 400 pages in and didn't finish the last 100.

  15. I love the cover of this! I totally used to play with my grandma's typewriter when I was little and this reminds me of those fun times :) The story itself sounds like it'll be pretty emotional - this girl is going through some major issues! Will be adding to my TBR pile stat.
