My Top Ten Book Related Issues

I've been doing this book blogging thing for almost five years now, so I am bound to have a few problems pop up along the way.  Whether my issues be book specific, or something to do with my organization skills, they are issues I constantly battle.

Let me know in the comments if you encounter any of these and how you go about figuring your way through it.  As always, be sure to check out The Broke and the Bookish for more details on this awesome weekly feature.

1. My Never-Ending TBR Pile:
I cannot tell you how many books are on my "TBR" list, in its honest form.  The number is out of control and ridiculously long.  I don't know if I'll ever get that number down.  But to be honest, I'm not so sure I want to.  This book lover will never grow tired of discovering more books to read!

2. Staying Inside My Contemporary Romance Bubble:
Somehow in the last 2-3 years I've only had a desire to read contemporary romance (YA or Adult).  Which is great, but once upon a time I read and enjoyed other genres, too.  I really should step outside my bubble more often.

3. Failing To Schedule Posts In Advance:
But look! My Top Ten Tuesday is actually posted ON A TUESDAY.  So there is progress being made ;)  Over the years, scheduling blog posts has taken backseat to other priorities in my life (which is definitely okay), but sometimes I wish I'd taken 30 minutes or so to write up that post and get it scheduled, so I am not scrounging at the last minute.

4. Sticking To A Read For Review Schedule:
I have my physical ARCs in a stack according to their release dates (the oldest on bottom, most recent on top) and this helps me when choosing my next read.  However, I am such a mood reader and can never stick to a schedule.  I need to be better about this.

5. Purchasing A Book When I Have Plenty To Read Already:
THIS.  I have always done this since day one of my blogging life (it's probably why my TBR will never stop growing).  Sure I could put myself on a book buying ban, but do I really want to do that??! hehe

6. Characters Referring To One Another As Pet Names:
This will ruin a story for me if it happens consistently throughout.  It's probably one of my biggest pet peeves.  A term of affection from time to time is perfectly fine, but when their name is completely substituted for said pet name, I just can't do it.

7.  Not Finishing A Series:
This goes back to my issue with Staying Inside My Contemporary Romance Bubble.  I'll start a series (that's usually non-contemp) and end up putting it on hold before I get to the next book.  I am currently doing this with the Graceling series that I started a year ago and need to read the last book for.

8. Always Wanting Romance In EVERYTHING I Read:
I can't help it, romance is what my literary heart always gravitates towards.  Again, I need to be willing to step outside my bubble more often and accept books that don't necessarily focus on the romance aspect to keep the story going.  I've discovered some beautiful stories in my past when I did this and need to remind myself to keep doing it!

9. My Chaotic And Very Unorganized Bookshelves:
There is no organization when it comes to my bookshelves in my home.  I have two large bookshelves, one for books I've read, that has books stacked every which way on; and the other for books waiting to be read.  I thought about alphabetizing, but the task wore me out just thinking about it, ha!

10. Not Allowing Myself More Time To Re-Read Favorites:
I definitely have issues with this one, especially when it's favorite that I want to experience again.  I started out the year re-reading my favorite adult romance and it reminded me how I need to do this more often.  Summertime is a great time for re-reading some fab YA contemps, too!

  1. Since I started blogging I'm terrible at rereading, I joined the Rereading Challenge this year and set myself a modest goal of 12 books for the year to at least try and fit some of these in!

  2. Number 10 is always a problem. You want to re-read them but you feel you are betraying those books waiting in line to be read :(

  3. I'm with you on #10. The last few years, I re-read one of my old favorite Pat Conroy novels at the beginning of each year...and then that's all the re-reading I do! There are too many things out there I haven't read yet!

  4. I wish I had more time to re-read books! But this doesn't go well with the never-ending TBR pile ;)

  5. Haha.......#5 says it all. Which then creates problem #1. It's a never ending cycle, but it sure is fun :)

  6. Oh boy, I hear you! Particularly with #1 and #3. I have all these bookish post ideas but always fail to actually write and schedule them ahead of time. I need to get better at that. And as for our ever-growing TBR lists, I think that's normal for every bookworm/book blogger!

  8. Oh, #1 and #5 - I seriously have a problem with those! I'm getting better at managing #5, honestly, but #1 is still a problem (especially if you peek at my shelves on Goodreads). Definitely a bookish problem I can relate to!

  10. I have some of these problems too but not re-reading favorites, I tend to do that a lot. I agree with you on review schedules and such. My TBR pile is neverending too, but that's in a way fun!
