My Top Ten TV Shows I Watched When I Was A Teen(ish)

I always tell people, reading a book is like watching a movie (or TV show) for me.  When it's a really good book, I can visualize the story through its pages and feel as though I'm watching the characters as it unfolds.  I love that.

Since I didn't do a whole lot of reading in my teen years, I thought I'd showcase the TV shows I did do a lot of watching!  In some ways, it's just another medium for me to escape (see the love for contemporary resemblance here?? hehe).  Be sure to check out The Broke and the Bookish for more details on this awesome weekly feature.

1. Malibu Shores [click here for more info] - I remember setting my VCR to record this show (for the young kids, it's that big boxy thing that recorded TV on to a tape lol).  This was where my love for Keri Russell and all her glorious hair began (see Felicity below).  It also put Malibu, California on the map for me and I seriously thought all the kids out there lived in rich houses on the beach, ha.

2. Beverly Hills, 90210 (the original!) [click here for more info] - This is when I was thankful for having older sisters because I got away with watching inappropriate television for my age, HA.  I can remember having a crush on Brandon, but secretly eying Dylan.  Oh my pre-teen heart.

3. Roswell [click here for more info] - I remember my mom being a big fan of this show, and when I'd call home from college my freshman year, she'd be watching it.  I'd tease her about liking those aliens, but secretly I kind of liked them too, ha.

4. Party of Five [click here for more info] - This was such a favorite of mine at the time (I recently re-watched it too).  I remember it being one of the first drama series I watched as a teen that I found myself emotionally invested in.  They always touched on such heavy issues, and man, was I sucked in.

5. My So-Called Life [click here for more info] - There is so much nostalgia when ever I am reminded of this show.  Jordan Catalano was the ultimate swoon material!  I remember connecting with Angela's character so much because I began watching this show just as I started high school.  Such an important time for developing friendships, while discovering who you are.  This was another TV show I taped on the VCR too, ha.

6. Dawson's Creek [click here for more info] - I feel like this show opened the door to what the CW (it was called the WB back then) is now today with its array of teenage dramas.  I didn't stick with this one til the end, I think when they went off to college I sort of lost interest.  But I remember being TEAM PACEY from the beginning!

7. Felicity [click here for more info] - I would drive over to a friend's house every Tuesday (or was it Wednesday?) night this show came on so that her and I could watch it together.  I loved following Felicity to NYC, as she chased after Ben, only to find him chasing after her in the end.  This entire show is brilliant and one I still recommend to friends who never saw it when it first aired.  I still cry when I watch that finale.

8. One Tree Hill [click here for more info] - I was a bit out of my teens when I started watching this show, but I decided to group it with this bunch anyway.  It first began during a very rough time in my life (my mother had just passed away).  I needed an escape from reality and this show definitely delivered, even if it was for only just an hour, once a week.  This show highlighted music, too, which was awesome when you didn't have such things as shazam to find out what a song was, or who a band is.

9. Saved by the Bell [click here for more info] - Who remembers watching this show on Saturday mid-mornings?  I do!  Later it became the king of re-runs after school.  The show was always so corny and wow, if you saw it now -- major 90s! But I still loved it.

10. Friends [click here for more info] - I can remember sitting down with my entire family, after dinner, and watching this TV show in the living room.  It brought us together and had us laughing so much.  When the series finale aired, I remember it being emotional. There would never be another show like it, and I was sad to see it end.

  8. Dawson's Creek was my high school show (the kids were the same age as me). My mom and I loved Party of Five and Felicity (WHY can't Party of Five be on Netflix???). I watched My So Called Life, 90210, and One Tree Hill as reruns (eventually catching up with OTH for the last few seasons). And of course I watch SBTB on Satuday mornings. Good shows!

  10. I don't watch much TV these days, so I kind of had to employ the same tactic on my list. And, of course, Dawson's Creek made my list. I can't believe I forgot Felicity, though!

  21. Dawson's Creek, Party of Five, Felicity and Friends definitely top my teen list! I recently re watched Dawson's from the beginning and fell in love with the Pacey goodness all over again ;). Did you ever watch the Party of Five spinoff? I can't remember what it was called, but Jennifer Love Hewitt's character was the main focus of the show.
