My Top Ten Covers I Think Need a Makeover

This week's Top 10 Tuesday prompt wants to know which book covers we think need a re-do?  I am not a fan of most of the Adult Romance covers that I read.  A lot have the half naked dudes on the cover, which I will admit, makes me giggle and a bit embarrassed to be seen reading in public.  I'd like to give some of those covers a makeover.

As for YA,  there's a few books I absolutely loved, but loathed their covers.  I feel as though some people are reluctant to read these stories because of those covers, and that makes me sad because they're missing out on a really great story.  Be sure to check out The Broke and the Bookish for more details on this awesome weekly feature.

Ten Things We Did by Sarah Mlynowski [add to goodreads] - I am not a fan of the up close and personal book covers. But I am a huge fan of this book!

Losing It by Cora Carmack [add to goodreads] - Hmm wonder what she's losing here?! I like a little bit of a mystery and this one (along with the title) just gives too much away.

Not That Kind of Girl by Siobhan Vivian [add to goodreads] - Are they falling asleep before they even lock their lips?! Another example of a book I love, but loath the cover.

Frigid by J. Lynn [add to goodreads] - Dude needs to put a shirt on under that coat! It's a bit chilly with the snow & all.

Easy by Tammara Webber [add to goodreads] - Again, no to the up close and personal. Also, that guy does not look like my Lucas. Anyone else agree?

Major Crush by Jennifer Echols [add to goodreads] -Even though this book IS cutesy, I'm not a fan of that dominating the cover.

Where She Went by Gayle Forman [add to goodreads] - I'm not sure why, but I have never liked this cover. But I LOVE this story, a lot.

Ride With Me by Ruthie Knox [add to goodreads] - Ack! Another example of a book I would have NEVER picked up if not for a good friend. And my oh my has it changed my literary heart.

Take Me There by Carolee Dean [add to goodreads] - I was worried these two characters were about to get run over! But after I read the book I realized this cover has NOTHING to do with the book. Odd.

Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead [add to goodreads] - What is Angelina Jolie doing on this cover?!

  1. Most NA-type books need to be redesigned. It's always the same – a couple's face close together to each other or a couple with one person who's half-naked. No thanks.

I really dislike the cover of Where She Went because it makes me think of the actress who played Claire on Lost and Belle on Once Upon A Time. I'm not a big fan of her so I'm pretty annoyed I'm reminded of her every time I look at the cover.

Your response to Vampire Academy = my thoughts exactly! I keep thinking of Angelina Jolie as Rose and that's weird!

  2. Yes, to all of them! I hate it but those covers have stopped me from reading those books, except Where She Went but it was because everyone kept recommending it to me along with If I Stay.

    Great list :)

  4. Haha! Completly agree about Frigid! With all that snow, that guy does need to button up!

Wasn't a huge fan od the 10 things cover either, even though it's an amazing book.

VA made my list as well. Rose has always looked like Angelina Jolie/Megan Fox to me thanks to that cover.

  5. Of all these, TAKE ME THERE is the one I mind the least. The up close is on too many covers, and if it's going to have a person, can it not look awkward? Nice list!

  6. I am with you on so many of these. I had Losing It on my list too, but the original cover, the revised one you have is slightly (and I mean SLIGHTLY) better, but still terrible. Where She Went is one of my all time favorite books, but I loathe the cover. I think it's the model? Or the stupid expression on her face? And yeah, the Ride With Me cover is ridiculous. But I read it after your review and I totally loved it.

  9. I love that I'm not the only one who sees Angelina Jolie every time they look at the Vampire Academy cover!! And even though we know not to judge a book by its cover, we still can't help ourselves, can we?

  11. Woo glad to see so many others think the VA girl looks like Angelina Jolie back in her Girl Interrupted days! Great picks, what is with all the almost kiss covers nowadays! My TTT.

  13. I so agree with losing it. It's quite obvious what that girls about to lose. And to Caspar the very friendly ghost too! lol. A little bit too much soft glow there.

  14. Oh my gosh, I forgot about Major Crush for my TTT. I love that book, but that is one awful cover!

Losing It is too much for me, too. Like you said, there's no mystery, but even mores, it's very IN YOUR FACE what that book is about.

  15. Lol I have ALWAYS thought that about the Vampire Academy cover!

  16. I agree with your Lucas comment. I kind of hate when they put faces on a cover because it's hard when you imagine the character one way and then the cover presents them another way.
