My Top Ten Books I Am Thankful For Reading This Year

This week's Top 10 Tuesday prompt wants to know what we're thankful for.  I thought I'd make my list bookish and include the top ten books I am thankful for discovering this year.  Their stories have enriched me and reminded me why I love literature so much.

Which books are you thankful for discovering this year? Please share in the comments below.  Be sure to check out The Broke and the Bookish for more details on this awesome weekly feature.

Nine Rules to Break While Romancing a Rake by Sarah MacLean - Thankful for this introduction to Historical Romance because it's made me want to read more like it.  It's a nice contrast to be placed back in time when certain things were forbidden, but the characters have a way of breaking those rules. So fun! [add to goodreads]

Golden by Jessi Kirby - A book I mention quite often on my blog because it's made that big of an impression on me.  I am thankful for Jessi's words as they touched me beyond just literature and caused me to think about my life and the paths I choose. [add to goodreads]

Clockwork Princess by Cassandra Clare - I am oh so thankful to Cassandra Clare for delivering the best of the best when it comes to series enders.  Not much can top this finale, especially when everything was wrapped up so PERFECTLY. [add to goodreads]

The Book of Broken Hearts by Sarah Ockler - Another book I've mentioned more than once on my blog.  There is so much in this story that I am thankful for experiencing.  It touched me on a personal level and allowed me to heal for a loss that I hadn't known wasn't quite done healing.  Thank you Sarah, thank you so much. [add to goodreads]

Ride with Me by Ruthie Knox - Not only am I thankful for Ruthie Knox being an incredible writer that she is and producing amazing stories that she does, but I am also thankful to my friend Capillya for introducing this wonderful woman's words into my life.  Ruthie Knox has quickly become my favorite Adult writer. [add to goodreads]

Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta - How can you not be thankful for experiencing this book after you've read it?  Melina Marchetta has a way with words that catapult me to a level that I didn't even know existed.  I am so glad I finally took the time to read this book because it's made of pure beauty. Side Effects May Vary by Julie Murphy - An author I am so thankful for meeting and getting to know.  Her debut novel comes out in 2014 and I cannot wait for the world to experience it!  I just know she's going to blow every reader away with it. [add to goodreads]

God-Shaped Hole by Tiffanie DeBartolo - This book reminded me why I love reading so much.  I am so very thankful for experiencing it, and thanks to Estelle for pushing it on to me.  It's a story that will linger with you long after you've read it and those are the best kinds to be thankful for. [add to goodreads]

Noggin by John Corey Whaley - I am oh so thankful for having an opportunity to read this book!  Corey is someone who's writing I've always admired and friendship I am thankful for.  This particular story allowed me to laugh, cry, and fall in love with literature.. all within 300-something pages. So thankful for that gift. [add to goodreads]

The Truth About Forever by Sarah Dessen - Thankful for experiencing a new-to-me Dessen book that I could fall in love with again.  Her writing is like coming home to visit an old friend; warm, inviting, and a place you're never quite ready to leave. [add to goodreads]

  1. Ginger, CLOCKWORK PRINCESS was indeed a perfect ending to that series -- oh my gosh, the twists that we all should've seen coming, but didn't . . . brilliant!! Personally, I like this series better than the Mortal Instruments, so I'm sad that the 3rd Shadowhunter series she has planned doesn't at least fall between the two time periods. But I agree that CLOCKWORK PRINCESS was glorious, and for sure on of this year's best books! Great list!

  4. I love The Truth About Forever and Golden. They are both so good, but for different reasons. I'm such a huge fan of Dessen and Kirby.

  5. So hard to keep it to 10, I don't know how you did it! But Clockwork Princess would definitely be on my list...what a fantastic series ender. I may have to reread the whole series soon and just savor it. I still need to read Jellicoe Road, it's ready for me to be picked up from the library right now. I've heard such great things about it. Great list! ~Pam

  6. I'm terrible! I haven't read any of these books, although I really need to read Sarah MacLean. I hear her books are amazing, and I love historical romance.

And I'm so terrifed to read Clockwork Princess. I've heard how great it is . . . but I can't take the conflict.

  7. I am thankful to you for recommending Ride With Me and God-Shaped Hole. And, indirectly, How to Kill a Rock Star which I don't think was as powerful as God-Shaped Hole, but I personally enjoyed a bit more (I was less anxious while reading it at least).

And I'm hoping that soon I'll get to thank you for recommending Noggin. I got approved for it on Edelweiss this morning and I am really excited to read it!

  9. Jellicoe Road is actually the only one of those ten that I have read, so I have a lot more to add to my reading list now!

  11. What a wonderful list! There are many books that I am thankful for. I LOVED Golden and Clockwork Princess but many of these I still have to read. I don't know why I haven't read Jellicoe Road yet. I am a huge Marchetta fan.
