Ginger's Bookish Holiday Gift Giving Recs!

I've read 70+ books this year, and quite a few of those I would recommend as Christmas gifts to those who read (and maybe to those who don't, but need a good book to capture their interest).  I thought I'd make a list of the ones I read this year that would make great gifts!  Let me know in the comments if you've read them and what you thought - also if you have any other books to recommend.

The Lucky Harbor series by Jill Shalvis
Purchase: B&N | Amazon | AbeBooks
You've probably seen me rant and rave a few times about these books. They are some of my favorite adult contemporary romances read this year!  Each story focuses on a different set of characters set in the seaside town of Lucky Harbor. I loved the quirkiness and passion brought on page after page. Definitely a must read to warm those chilly winter nights.

Along for the Ride by Sarah Dessen
Purchase: B&N | Amazon | AbeBooks
Sarah Dessen books are always my go-to when I'm in need of a feel good YA contemporary. This book is at the top of my favorites from her. Give this gift to any teenage girl and she'll thank you forever and ever. Dessen writes the type of stories that will grow with you, and you can always count on to go back to, time and time again.

How to Kill a Rock Star by Tiffanie DeBartolo
Purchase: B&N | Amazon | AbeBooks
If you know someone who likes to read a more edgy adult contemporary, then I highly recommend picking up this book for them. I'm a huge music lover and adore books that incorporate music into their story lines. If this is something that suits you or someone you know, another reason you want to buy this book as a Christmas gift!

Wanderlove by Kristen Hubbard
Purchase: B&N | Amazon | AbeBooks
Are you needing to buy a gift for someone who has a love for travel in far away places? Then this book is the perfect gift! Send someone to the lush, enchanting rain forests or the sparkling beaches of Latin America. Though the miles may stretch on, this book is more about the self journey one takes within themselves. It was an instant love for me and I'm sure it will be for others, too.

Such a Rush by Jennifer Echols
Purchase: B&N | Amazon | AbeBooks
I'll pretty much recommend any Jennifer Echols book, but this one takes the cake as my favorite by her! If you're looking for a rich contemporary for someone who loves intricate plots and loads of dramatic character development, then I highly recommend picking up this one. Oh and the romance? Steamy!

Obsidian (Lux series) by Jennifer L. Armentrout
Purchase: B&N | Amazon | AbeBooks
For those who like a little paranormal/sci-fi in their contemporary romance novels, I highly recommend this series by Jennifer L. Armentrout. It's got to take a pretty convincing storyline and something a bit addictive for me to want to read paranormal these days. This one definitely captured my interest and I think those on your holiday shopping list will agree.

Attachments by Rainbow Rowell
Purchase: B&N | Amazon | AbeBooks
Here's another adult contemporary novel that won me over with it's hilarity and original writing scheme. Sometimes books don't have to be set in enchanting castles or drop mysterious plot lines. Sometimes books can be set in a town like your own, portraying lives of people you may know. It's these types of stories that really intrigue me because they feel so real. If you're shopping for someone who's reading tastes fall under the realistic contemporary genre, then this one is definitely a book for them!

I love the idea of giving books as Christmas gifts because it's the type of gift that can be visited more than once, and can always be passed on as a new gift to someone else. I wish I could package up each of these books & send them off to all of you! Please let me know if you've chosen a few of these books based on my rec's. Or if you need more ideas, I've got plenty! Happy Holidays!!

  2. After reading your reviews and seeing how much you loved The Lucky Harbor series, I recommended the first two books to my mum and she loved them and is looking forward to continuing the series. Last year I read If I Listen and it was my first time reading Sarah Dessen. I found the beginning quite slow and found it to be just an OK read. It's a resolution of mine in 2013 to give her another go and I've been thinking about which one of her books I should try so since Along For the Ride is your favourite of hers, I think that will be the one I read next. I'm a big fan of Jennifer Echols and can't wait to read my copy of Such A Rush, it sounds amazing! Since reading your review of Attachments (and also Eleanor and Park) I'm definitely intrigued and looking forward to checking them out further.

I love this list. Give me Ginger rec's anytime! ♥

  3. I love your choices for this list! I'm thinking of gifting my sister with the Simply Irresistible series, though I have yet to read it, because it sounds like something she'd definitely enjoy. Contemporary romances for the win!
