Sweet Summertime Reads: My Summer Reading Spots

To kick off the SWEET SUMMERTIME READS series hosted by Fiction Folio, Rather Be Reading, and myself -- we are featuring our favorite summertime reading spots.

In a perfect world, I would be outside in the sunshine devouring my latest summertime read; however, this world in Texas does not allow such things when the temps are a smoldering 90+ degrees.  So with that being said, most of my summertime reading occurs in doors.  Put a book in front of me with an hour or so to get lost in the pages and it doesn't matter where my reading occurs!

My Summer Reading Spots:

If I can stand the heat, some reading occurs on my patio. There is plenty of sunshine to soak up as I consume these pages.

My comfy couch will get most of the reading time action this summer, though.  I have a view of the sunshine outside, but the comfort of my A/C inside.  Many hours will be lost here & I am perfectly content with that.

When certain books take me into those long summer nights & I just can't seem to put them down, my bed is the perfect spot!  It's cozy and comfortable, just the way I like it.  However, I may have fallen asleep a time or two with page creases on my face, ha!

I have a few trips planned this summer which involve driving time.  If I'm riding shot gun, I plan to take my books along and read as the miles pass by!

One of the stops will be New Braunfels, TX.  My family and I visit here every summer (have been for the last 25+ years!!).  I love the Texas hill country and the lazy rivers that flow through this unique German town.  Grabbing a book and sitting under a shady tree sounds like the perfect afternoon to me.

My biggest adventure this summer will be my first trip to the Pacific Northwest - Seattle!!  I have been planning this trip for awhile & can not be more excited.  With the several hour plane ride I am anticipating a lot of reading on my way there & my way back.  I plan to check out some local bookstores as well, maybe grab a coffee and sneak in a few chapters.

Another tradition spent with the family is spending a few days at the beach house along the Texas Gulf Coast.  I devoured a book last summer just sitting on the deck, soaking in the sunshine.  The breeze from the gulf was a nice reprieve from the Texas heat.

  2. Great reading spots. I usually read on my armchair in my room and in bed at night. I'm really looking forward to spending hours in my chair reading this summer.

  3. Oh I wish I could read in the car! And I totally thought you were going to talk about reading while floating down a lazy river in an inner tube. Ha! I'm sure people do that, but how they don't run off course or get their book soaked is beyond me.

  4. Ah! My hometown, New Braunfels! I love sitting along the Texas gulf coast (Port Aransas) devouring a book or two! If I had it my way, I'd never leave, wish I could get there more often.

  5. All of these spots look great! Well, maybe not floating down a river.... My family has a vacation tradition too. We will be spending our 30th year at Kentucky Lake for a week in July. There were 9 of us when we first went. Now there are over 20 of us! Have a great summer!

  6. OH PLEASE can I float down that river and read?!? Also, I'm jealous you can read in the car. I get all sicky if I try.

  7. Love your reading spots :) I have a friend who was telling me about New Braunfels in Texas, and I think my great-uncle’s family was from there. I need to go visit. My son lives north of Dallas, so maybe I can plan a side trip someday.

  12. Love all of your locations and plans for the summer! I never get a tan because I usually stay indoors because of the heat. This year, I'm vowing to buck up and hang at our pool (with plenty of SPF of course!).

  17. I love all your special reading places, Ginger! :-) I am immensely curious about New Braunfels and its many rivers. A lot of my co-workers go there during the summer to float the river and I would love to do it sometime. Maybe you can give me some tips on where to go and what to do!

  18. You have some great reading spots! I would love to read outside more, but the mosquitoes are absolutely horrible! I especially love the beach house view ... wish I had one of those! I love reading in the front room of my house ... the view is a big, beautiful tree filled with pink flowers. It's a gorgeous view!

Enjoy your trips ... I was planning one to my parents, with my audiobook. Other than that, I usually have to keep my hubby company. :)

    Enjoy your summer reading!

  19. Those are some lovely reading spots! I'll be headed to the beach this summer, and I am so excited about all the reading I can get done while I'm there (and in the car on my way). I'm really excited about this feature, by the way. It's such a fun way to celebrate the summer :)

  20. That looks like a really comfy couch! And I live in OK now, but I was born in Texas and my parents live north of Houston, and both of them grew up around New Braunfels and Seguin! So I've been to that area a whole lot myself! I want to go back there sometime soon and go to Schlitterbahn! Have a great summer visiting all those great places! ;)
