My Introduction to the World of Harry Potter

I don't think there's ever been a book series that's been more hyped up or talked about in my lifetime, than that of Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling.  As someone who reads young adult literature, and had never witnessed the world of Harry Potter on page, I felt like I was cheating myself.  People constantly asked me how it was possible that I had never read Harry Potter.  Well now I can proudly say that I have read, devoured, fallen in love, and totally consumed myself in the first installment of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone.

I get it now.  I 100% fully understand the love for this story.  Though I am just starting out, and still have loads more to experience, it's starting to all make sense.  These books may come across as a tale about wizards and magic, but they're so much more than that.  There's truth, honor, wisdom, passion, friendship, and guidance spilled through out these pages.  It's something I didn't know until my eyes read these words for themselves.  It doesn't matter what age you are, what part of the world you come from, or what you believe in.. the magic of literature, especially in this story, can touch us all.  I am excited beyond belief to read the rest of this series.  I feel like I've just only dipped my toes in and can't wait to completely submerge myself in the world of Harry Potter.  If you have not read these books yet (are there still any of you left out there? I thought I may have been alone) I urge you to pick them up soon.  I may be late to this party, but I am so happy I finally arrived!

  3. What a beautiful post!!!

" These books may come across as a tale about wizards and magic, but they're so much more than that.  There's truth, honor, wisdom, passion, friendship, and guidance spilled through out these pages."  <-----------------This is the magic of Harry Potter and why it is so universal.

    Happy Reading!

  6. *hugs* if there is one series I wish I could read again for the first time is this one, yet I always fall in love with a new piece of it each time I re-read.

Enjoy your loosing your HP virginity! It's awesome ;)

  10. I'm almost jealous. I would love to discover these all over again and go through all of those emotions again for the first time. After you read all of the books a time or two, you must experience the audio versions. I'm partial to Stephen Fry's narration but Jim Dale does an incredible job with the Americanized version too. That has become my favorite way to revisit the wonderful world of Hogwarts! Enjoy!!

  11. Oh man, if you feel that way after the first book, wait until you get farther into the series. The books grow with the characters to become more complex, more emotional, more serious. J.K. Rowling is a freaking genius. It took me until book 3 or 4 to realize just how good she is at what she does. Prepare to have your mind blown.

  12. It made me a little teary too! I was remembering how I felt the first time I read these books, how blown away I was and how much they've become a part of me since then.

  13. It was actually the same with me. I started reading the series last year in April and before that I just couldn't understand all that fuss about a wizard's story. But as you said, it's so much more than that and the more you'll read the more you see that it's far from being ordinary YA books.

Have fun with the rest of the HP books! Enjoy them as long as you're in that blissful stage of not knowing what's in store for you! ;)

  18. I started reading them a while ago too! I'm reading the second one right now. I was late to the party too =P But they are totally amazing! I loved the first book and I'm loving the second book too! BTW there are many people who STILL haven't read them e.g most of my friends! They think the books are childish. They are completely wrong! They are one of the reasons why I started reading these books so late.

  19. I'm so happy for you! I just love, love, love this series and I wish I could read them all again for the first time. You have such an emotional journey ahead of you :). Book 7, The Deathly Hallows, is one of my favorite books of ALL TIME. Enjoy!

  20. Girl, you know how I feel about all this. Buying the series/begging you to read the books is probably my biggest accomplishment since I started blogginng lol. I obvs can't take full credit, but I'm so pumped that you started (and fell in love with) the series and I can't WAIT to chat with you throughout the next six books :)

  21. Fricken took you long enough. I LOVE THESE BOOKS SO HARD. Like it sucks that you missed out on the cultural phenomenon of the Harry Potter midnight book release parties but, it's awesome that you are FINALLY expereincing these books and it makes me smile very much that you enjoyed them :-D

  23. I was actually late getting into Harry Potter too! I resisted until I couldn't because my professor had us read the first book in class. I become obsessed and have since read through the entire series three times. So so so good & I'm sad they are over. I hope you enjoy them just as much!

  24. I'm so glad that you delved into the series!  It took me a long time to read them myself, and I just read the last two this year, but it was AMAZING.  You're just going to fall in love even more as you go through the series. :]

  25. I'm kind of jealous that you're getting to experience those books for the first time. I miss that feeling.

  27. I just recently upstarted with the Harry Potter books too and a few weeks ago FINALLY read book one (at everyone's insistence!). And I'm like you, totally in love. I'm going to be dropping by the library soon to pick up The Chamber of Secrets and get going on finishing the series. I think my favorite thing about the book, besides the wizards and magic and all that, is Harry himself. I wanted to physically reach into the book and claw the Dursleys eyes out. The sadness and longing for family in Harry is palpable and heartwrenching. Ugh. I got teary-eyed right at the beginning.

So far I'm loving this series and looking forward to see what surprises were overlooked by the movies.

  28. I'm so glad you loved the first book. That's how I felt when I read it for the first time ten years ago. It's such a great series. I'm excited to see what you think of the rest of the books. Who's your favorite character so far? And, I love the quote you picked! It's my absolute favorite quote from the entire series and there are a lot of good quotes!

  29. I'll agree with the jealous types - Envious that you're starting the series for the first time...with all the books! Not that Mr. Potter isn't good with a second re-read, but there really is something magical the first time you do it!

  30. I actually hadn't read these until a couple years ago when my fiance and I started dating. My mother banned us from reading them so I feel like I was robbed of having that experience as a kid. I wish I'd gotten the chance to grow up with them like so many other people, but I'm still glad I got to read them. I hope you enjoy the rest :]

  31. Yay! I am glad you are a fan now too. This series it the absolute best. It's brilliant!

  32. Yay! I'm so glad you are enjoying the Harry Potter series. I love what you have to say here about the books. They really are fantastic, and I couldn't have put it any better myself. :)

  33. LOL. same here. and I thought I was the only one who's just starting to fall for the Harry Potter Series (after ten YEARS!) I even went and read the British copy, just to really feel like one of those fans who read it first (I know I'm crazy!). It's also funny that I started from the end, before the last movie started, I read the last book, then watched the movie. A few months later and here I'm reading the first book and falling for it! You're right, it's not about magic, it's about Life. Glad to have someone read them with me :D
