Crave by Melinda Metz & Laura J. Burns

Shay has had a rare blood disorder since she was born. In fact, her mother married one of Shay’s doctors, Martin, who left his world-renowned leukemia research to try and figure out exactly what the disorder is and how to cure it. When she turns seventeen, Martin begins to give her new blood transfusions that make her feel the strongest she has ever felt. But she also has odd visions where she sees through the eyes of a vampire. At first, she thinks she must be imagining the visions, but when she begins to see Martin’s office in them, she knows she has to check it out. That’s when she finds Gabriel, a sexy, teenaged vampire, imprisoned in Martin’s office. The connection she has built with Gabriel compels her to set him free. But when he kidnaps her in an attempt at revenge on Martin, their lives become deeply intertwined. She doesn’t know the half of it.

If you're looking for some new vamp material to read, with a twist.. then I highly recommend this book!  This novel is written by the same authors who brought us the Roswell High series, which followed with the tv sitcom Roswell.  They know how to bring just the right amount of surprise, infatuation, romance, and suspense to a subject matter that's been told more than once.

The story begins focusing on Shay, a teenage girl who has been battling a blood disorder her entire life & wants nothing more than to live a normal life.  Under the constant watch of her mother, step-father, and best friend.. Shay is determined to break free & really live whatever days she has left.  After receiving a new transfusion from her step-father, who is also her doctor, she begins to have "visions" during the treatment processes.  She is able to see things through the eyes of a vampire, a young-hot vampire by the name of Gabriel.  Shay starts to see a coincidence between the blood she is getting, which makes her extra strong & feel much better than she ever has, and these visions about Gabriel and his life as a vampire.  She wants to find answers, and the first place she goes looking is her step-father's doctor's office.  But what Shay finds will change her life for ever.  Gabriel.

A series of events happens, involving Shay & Gabriel on an adventure of their own.  Every thing that Shay has ever known will be shaken up and spit out, and left for her to decide what to do with next.  Can she trust Gabriel?  Does he have answers about her blood transfusion and why they make her so much stronger?  What are these feelings that Shay is having towards Gabriel and will they ultimately be the end of her?  This book has many twists and turns.  The element of surprise is always present, especially with the cliff-hanger ending!  This book is the first of a new series, so the authors have done a superb job of leaving you wanting more.  Or perhaps, craving more?

If you're tired of the over-used vampire storyline & want something new, I suggest picking up Crave.  It's a good start to a new series that I am anxious to read more about.

  1. Brilliant review! I've heard a good bit of good things about Crave, but I've put it off because of the vampires (which I'm rather over, shall we say). Sounds unique though! :)
