Clear eyes, full hearts, can't lose!

Here's another tv show that I am super late to the party... FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS!  Have you seen it?!  The 5th and final season just wrapped up not too long ago, so I thought - what's a better time than right now to pick it up from the beginning & watch from start to finish?  Y'all.. I am seriously hooked. Obsessed. Engrossed. Dedicated. IN FREAKING LOVE.  I'll admit, being a Texan who grew up among the craziness of high school football - the show didn't exactly appeal to me.  I know the story.  It's been told many times around here.  However, after seeing numerous trustworthy sources declare their undying affection for this show - I had to see what was up.  Listening to my instincts was a bad idea.  Believing my fellow bloggers, tweeters, numerous friends & family members was a GREAT idea.

Friday Night Lights is set in a fictional small town of Dillon, Texas.  It's premises is based on the highly popular sport of Texas high school football.  This town in particular (like so many in this great state I call home) pride themselves on the sport.  Dillon is no exception.  With the town comes a cast of  amazing people.  The first two that stood out immediately for me, Coach Taylor and his wife Tami.  Y'all - they are the epitome of what every teenager needs as a parent.  I love them individually, just as much as I love them as husband and wife, and parents to teenage daughter Julie.  I want Coach Taylor in my life on a daily basis giving me pep talks for every moment.  The dude is complete awesome.  Tami is not only beautiful, she's so strong-willed.  How could you not be if your husband is the coach of the high school's football team?  I love this lady something fierce.

The supporting cast of characters make up the football team and the rest of Dillon high school.  These guys and gals are so identifiable to me.  I knew that dude in high school.  I remember seeing that girl too.  I love the football players ambitions of wanting to make it big and get out of small town Dillon.  I love the doting girls that follow behind, but soon realize they need to find paths of their own.

However, there must be a favorite. There is ALWAYS a favorite!  And my pick of the bunch is Matt Saracen.  He's the underdog who surprises us all.  He's the shy boy who's never certain of himself, but explosive when he puts his mind to something.  His sweet nature and innocent eyes completely won me over from the beginning.  Next in line is the bad boy Tim Riggins.  I feel like I should want him as my favorite.  I mean hello, don't I always fall for the bad guys?!  I think it's his hair.  Maybe if he washed it?  Whatever the reason, I still have a special place in my heart for Riggins.  Texas forever.

Aside from the amazing cast, there's an awesome storyline.  Yes, football plays a major role in it - but it's just the backdrop to so many other story lines and drama-filled scenes.  I can't just sit and watch one episode.  Something happens that leads me in to the next, and before I know it I just lost a few hours of my life (and I freaking love it!).  Right now I just finished season one and I am quickly moving forward to the next episodes.  Friday Night Lights is rapidly becoming my favorite new tv show.  If you haven't seen it yet, I highly recommend doing so now!  You can watch it with me!  If you are already a fan, feel free to profess your undying love for it in the comments :-) and remember... CLEAR EYES! FULL HEARTS! CAN'T LOSE!
