A weekly feature hosted by me that showcases music - my other passion in life besides books! Each week I will post a new or old song in hopes to gain more interest. Help me in spreading the love of music!

This week kicks off a month long tribute to bands (or singers) you've seen live in concert -- or have always wanted to! The thrill and excitement you get from seeing your favorite performer on stage, playing that one song you've listened to on repeat is indescribable. I've had the privilege of seeing many great bands perform live, as well as a mental bucket list of who I'd like to see... some day! Please join us for the month of December by showing off your favorite tunes you've seen live, or have always wanted to.
When someone asks me, what's your favorite concert you've been to? My first thought brings me back to Coldplay in the winter of 2003. This was my first time to see them live (I've seen them a total of 3 times) & it will always & forever be their best performance (in my eyes) to date. They came to Houston and played at a small venue downtown, promoting their album A Rush of Blood to the Head -- which is one of the most brilliant albums I have EVER listened to from start to finish. I went with a small group of friends & family, the venue was standing room only, so we got there early and staked our claim towards the front of the stage.
I will never forget that feeling that came over me as I watched Chris Martin on the piano. He was in his own element, playing the most hypnotic melody that my ears had ever heard. I devoured and relished in that moment, telling myself to never forget it. I zoned out every one around me, feeling as though this band was playing for me and only me. At the time I had no clue how huge Coldplay would become. I think that's another reason why the moment was so surreal because I KNEW I was witnessing something great, something bigger than myself. I walked out of that venue that night on the biggest high of my life. Nothing could make me happier. I believe we all have certain moments in our lives that we can pinpoint when true happiness found us. This concert was one of them for me.
Their music is something else. This band, that concert, is such a meaningful piece of my history. I'd say if you get the chance, go see Coldplay in concert now... however it's not comparable to that night in 2003. Once a band starts performing to sold out crowds in huge stadiums, the music doesn't quite feel as intimate anymore. I am honored to say that I got the chance to listen to Chris, Guy, Jonny, & Will in their prime years. It's a concert I will never forget.
And because it's almost Christmas time I had to post a live version of my FAVORITE Christmas song by them :) I adore this tune so SO MUCH. The story in the lyrics starts out sad, yet it builds to be something hopeful and inspiring. May all your troubles fade away and your Christmas lights shine on ;-)

LOVE that Coldplay song!
ReplyDeleteIs it bad that one of my fave concerts was Celine Dion LOL.
I've never seen Coldplay live, but I agree, their first two albums are my favorite. I'll always hold a special place in my heart for Parachutes, but A Rush... is my second favorite.
ReplyDeleteI love Coldplay (their older stuff though) and would love to see them!
ReplyDeleteWow! Just wow! I have never been DYING to see them in concert but after hearing your description of it, I think I will need to try. I know exactly what you mean, that amazing feeling you get after witnessing and awesome concert. Nothing compares :)
ReplyDeleteLove Cold Play! Great band. My first concert was Alan Jackson. I distinctly remember Chattahoochee.
ReplyDeleteI was expecting SafetySuit...haha...fooled me. I will not say more so we can remain friends. :D So glad you had such an awesome time though!!!
ReplyDeleteColdplay is one of my favs too! Though I haven't had seen them live. Sounds like a fantastic experience.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't resist putting a Christmas carol this week but I'm already planning the concert stuff for next week :D
