Meet the Blogger Behind the Book: Capillya from That Cover Girl
What is it that you do when you are not blogging (job wise)?
During the day, I'm a producer for a small independent production company - we're basically an outfit of creatives that produces online video, broadcast commercials and the like. I wish I could sum up my job responsibilities in one neat little sentence, but that's difficult to do because I wear a lot of hats. I take care of clients. I budget, schedule, shoot and edit. I hire G&E, makeup/hair, and PAs for larger productions. I lug around coolers and make sure people get fed on set. I'm a tech nerd so when something breaks, my troubleshooting guns come out a-blazin. I'm a visual creative but I'm also task-oriented and geared towards timelines and deadlines, so I'm also known as "the one who gets things done." This fall I will have been with my employer for five years, and I can honestly say I've never been bored for even one minute. No two days in my workweek have been the same, ever, so I'm always in the middle of doing something. How long have you & the Hubs been married? (feel free to share your love story here - it's awesome! I love it)
My husband Kyle and I have been married for just over five years. Technically, we're high-school sweethearts. I moved down here to the South from Japan after my sophomore year of high school and I distinctly remember the first time I ever laid eyes on him. We were about to take our ACTs during junior year (at some ridiculously early hour) and I remember being nervous about the test, and really tired from studying. All of the sudden, some tall brown-headed boy comes bounding into the classroom like he's eaten two pounds of sugar for breakfast. He's got this big toothy grin on his face and starts talking really loudly to the entire class. He was stupid excited. I remember glaring at him and wanting so badly to tell him to shut up, that's how loud he was.
He asked me to be his girlfriend in the spring of our senior year. We went to separate colleges the following year, but sophomore year I convinced him that my college was more awesome than his (at least for our major, and it definitely was). The next year he proposed, and I married him the year after that -- officially becoming Mrs. Tall Loud Boy.
On a Saturday morning you can usually be found doing...
My Saturdays vary from week to week. Since Friday night is normally the only night I get "good" sleep (HOORAY 8 HOURS!), typically I avoid doing ANYTHING before 9AM on Saturdays if I can help it. I try to get most of my blogging done on Saturday mornings/afternoons (and on Sunday nights) to post the following week. Sometimes I'm running around town, dropping by my MIL's house (I have the best mother in law in the entire world), hanging out with friends, trying to catch a movie, trying a new baking recipe, helping Hubs on a shoot (we both work in similar fields), doing laundry, cleaning the whirlwind of a mess I've created the previous week, etc. Oh, and sometimes I work. ;)
What book is currently bookmarked on your bedside table? coffee table? kitchen table? or where ever it is that you read?
Currently I'm reading Jump by Elisa Carbone, and it's sitting on my nightstand. I started it last week, and unfortunately I'm only 60 pages in. February is determined to win first place in the Month Most Determined to Drive Me Crazy contest.
Favorite cupcake flavor?
Oooh this is a TOUGH question! I'm a big fan of buttercream and cream cheese frosting -- those are my absolute favorites! But my favorite cupcake is one that I've baked before - pineapple banana cupcakes with cinnamon cream cheese frosting. (Here's a link featuring the recipe on Books Sweets and Other Treats)Honestly though? Put any kind of cupcake in front of me and I guarantee I will eat it. Margarita, maple bacon, chocolate, key lime -- I don't discriminate. ;)
If you could tell your 16 year old self one thing, what would it be?
GIRRRL! Go discover something! Read some books! You're hanging out with your friends and your boyfriend way too much. Quit pretending you're going to major in psychology simply because your friends think "you give good advice." Oh and by the way, you're in JAPAN, for crying out loud. Ten years from now, you're going to regret not seeing more sights and trying more weird foods. Go hop on the train and get lost somewhere (as scary as that sounds). You're a smart girl, and that's what that month-long intensive language study was for anyway. ;)
Who's your guilty pleasure currently on your ipod? (or whatever music device you use)
Every now and then I'll have a little song here and there that I'll consider a guilty pleasure, but I promise you I got way more puzzled stares after I gushed about loving the TRON: Legacy soundtrack than any other piece of music in my entire life. To the point that I felt guilty about it! (Don't worry, Daft Punk, I still love you and the wonderful score you created!) Author you'd like to meet most? and why?
Interestingly enough, the authors I'd most like to meet are the ones I've interacted with the most. Surprising, right? I've been a huge fan of Courtney Summers work ever since her debut novel, and discovered she was a writer simply by randomly following her on Twitter a few years ago. She seems like she'd be a really funny person in real life. (I just can't get enough of funny people!) If I were able to meet Courtney IRL, we'd play some Wii, cook meals that include lots of vegetables (especially tomatoes), and spend a day taking pictures in some beautiful part of Canada. I'd also love to meet Daisy Whitney. Daisy seems like a fun person to be around and we both love new media (again, I followed her on Twitter before I knew she would become an author). Our perfect day would revolve around going to the Asian food grocer (buying lots of chocolate koala bears), hanging out in San Francisco and going to a tea shop. Finally, I'd love to meet Antony John. He seemed so nice and genuine in the emails we wrote back and forth when I featured him on the blog for Five Flavors of Dumb. Then, after he sent me an ARC to read (that I didn't even ask for), I loved the novel and I admired him even more. Plus he loves to wear sweatpants. Double Plus -- I bet he has an awesome accent. My perfect day would simply consist of me listening to him talk in his British accent.Thank you so much to Capillya for being the first to be featured on The Blogger Behind the Book! Loved interviewing her :-) Be sure to check out her blog! & stay tuned for the next blogger behind that book...
